Sink your teeth into this juicy steak sandwich, piled high with tender slices of beef, tomato relish, avocado, lettuce and mayonnaise. Perfect for an easy and healthy midweek meal or weekend lunch!
Steak Sandwich
You can make these steak sandwiches with whatever piece of meat you can easily get your hands. I prefer cuts from grass fed beef, any cut really or whats on special at the time. Even cheap cuts like flank or skirt steak work, just make sure you tenderise it first and cook it quickly.
The meat is best cut across the grain, here is a great tip on how to do it;
www.recipetineats.com. This gives you slices of meat that almost fall apart when you eat them. Don’t forget to season it really well too!
You can really use any bread or buns too, I prefer Turkish bread, but just use whatever is your family’s favourite. You can add in extra salad ingredients too like sliced tomato, thinly sliced cucumber, grated carrot, caramelised onions or baby spinach.
MORE EASY DINNER OR WEEKEND LUNCH RECIPES;
I made these steak sandwiches with the Tomato Relish from Crunch Preserves, I love using their relish in my recipes. I mean you could make your own tomato relish, but I usually don’t have the time for that!
Here are some of my favourite tomato relish recipes;
- Ham, Cheese + Tomato Relish Muffins
- Leftover Sausage Pasta with Tomato Relish
- Oven Baked Chicken Tacos
I do like to make my own mayonnaise though, you can find my recipe here;
Homemade Mayonnaise.

How to make the perfect Steak Sandwich;
PrintSteak Sandwich
- Total Time: 12 minutes
- Yield: 2 sandwiches 1x
Ingredients
- 200g beef steak of your choice (any will do)
- 2 Turkish bread buns
- 2 tablespoons tomato relish
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 avocado, sliced
- cos lettuce leaves
Instructions
Remove the steak from the fridge and let it come to room temperature, cover with baking paper and bash it with a rolling pin to tenderise and make it all roughly the same thickness.
Place the buns into a hot oven to warm through and toast a little on the outside.
Season the steak all over with salt and pepper. Place a large, heavy bottomed pan on high heat, once really hot, drizzle the steak with olive oil, then put into the pan and cook for 3 minutes on each side for medium, or to your liking. Remove to a plate and rest 1 minute, then slice into strips against the grain.
Cut the buns in half, spread with mayonnaise, then layer avocado, lettuce, steak and tomato relish. Top with the other piece of bun, press down lightly and serve!
