INGREDIENTS
- SKIN ON / BONELESS CHICKEN THIGHS – Chicken thighs with skin on come out of the air fryer with a crispy top and juicy centre. Chicken breasts can also be used, they may just cook a minute or two quicker.
- SOY SAUCE – can be substituted with Tamari for a gluten free option.
- COCONUT SUGAR – any sugar can be used, this helps balance the marinade and adds a slight sweetness.
- MIRIN – helps to balance the savoury taste of the teriyaki sauce. Rice vinegar can be used as an substitute.
- AVOCADO OIL – any oil can be used, by adding a little oil to the marinade, no cooking oil needs to be added to the chicken before cooking, to get the golden and crispy edges.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR AIR FRYER CHICKEN TERIYAKI
Why is air fryer chicken so good?
Air fryer chicken is a healthier option compared to cooking chicken in oil on a pan. The air fryer cooks the chicken so it’s crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, which makes the chicken so delicious.
Can you overcook chicken in an air fryer?
Yes you can, if you have the air fryer turned up too high and cook the chicken for too long it can dry out.
Why does chicken cook quicker in an air fryer?
The air fryer is fast compared to an oven. Chicken cooks quite efficiently in the air fryer. Typically, you’ll shave off about 30 – 40 % of the cooking time by using an air fryer.
Does chicken need to be flipped in the air fryer?
The chicken doesn’t need to be flipped if it’s not too thick, but you can flip halfway through cooking if you prefer.
