School Lunchbox Planner
This year I went from no kids at school to both kids at school and boy did I get a shock! It’s really full on. You need to check the calendar daily to see who has library day, is Georgia at kindy or daycare or at home, is it news day, who needs Crunch and Sip and who needs fruit for the shared fruit bowl. My organisation had to take a giant step up, I was no longer just trying to manage myself and my work schedule, I was managing 3 different schedules.
As much as my kids would love to have the same thing in their lunchbox everyday (it being jam sandwich, pretzels and strawberries) I prefer to try and give them some variety in the hope of sneaking in extra veggies or healthier options. I also do like to take into account how busy I am and so allow for days where it is just a sandwich and something out of the freezer. This planner can really help plan your week and if you do it on the weekend you have time to get baking and stock the freezer in preparation.
Here are a few of my
Lunchbox Hacks;
- Buy a loaf of bread and make the entire loaf into Vegemite or cheese sandwiches, put these back into the bread bag and freeze the entire thing. You can then grab a ready made sandwich whenever you need it.
- Make a batch of muffins and freeze.
- Have a packet of crackers in the pantry for cheese and crackers lunchbox fillers.
- Make a big pasta salad with the kids favourite veggies, cheese and plain pasta ready to be scooped into lunchboxes. I leave it plain without dressing so it’s good for 3 days worth of lunches. I just keep it in a glass storage jar in the fridge.
- Cut up a few days worth of carrot sticks, watermelon pieces and cheese and store in airtight containers in the fridge.
- Place yoghurt into single serve size containers and freeze, this way it will defrost by recess and you don’t have to try and keep cool.
- Cook up 6 hard boiled eggs ready for 3 days worth of lunches.
- Grab a bag of Pretzels from the scoop and weigh section, these are a great treat without the waste of packaging.
