Possibly the easiest and most versatile Peanut Satay Sauce you will ever make and it’s all done in the jar of peanut butter you were about to throw out!
This can be used as a dipping sauce, turned into satay chicken and rice or even just drizzled over noodles for a simple, midweek vegetarian dinner.
STEP 1
Grate ginger and squeeze lime juice into peanut butter jar.
STEP 2
Measure in remaining ingredients, warm slightly in microwave if needed.
STEP 3
Shake really well until all ingredients combine to a smooth sauce.
STEP 4
Add a little water to thin for sauce or use as dipping sauce.
End of the Jar – Peanut Satay Sauce
I hate throwing anything away when there is still some left, even if it’s the tiniest of scrapes. I had started thinking surely there is a way to use up these last bits. I made a honey and soy marinade in the last of my honey jar and so thought I could make other sauces using these leftovers, rather than washing it down the drain.
This Peanut Satay Sauce came together so easily (I did have to warm it up a little as the honey and peanut butter were both quite hard) and it tastes amazing! I think there will be a lot of dinners next week using this sauce.
It’s basically made in the jar using pantry ingredients; soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sambal oelek, olive oil and that last quarter of a jar of peanut butter.

End of the Jar – Peanut Satay Sauce
- Total Time: 3 minutes
- Yield: small jar
Description
Peanut Satay Sauce made in the jar using pantry ingredients such as soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sambal oelek, olive oil and that last quarter of a jar of peanut butter.
Ingredients
- last ¼ of a jar of smooth peanut butter
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1 tablespoon coconut milk (optional)
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- ½ teaspoon sambal oelek
Instructions
Add all ingredients straight into the peanut butter jar, put on lid and shake until well combined. If needed, warm up slightly in the microwave to soften the ingredients.
Store in the fridge for up to a week, let sit at room temperature before using.
Notes
I like adding a little coconut milk to make the sauce creamier, if you don’t have any open you can leave this out, it still tastes great without it.
Use this thick as a dipping sauce or add a little water to thin if adding to noodles or chicken and rice.
